MOST dedicated partygoers will recall experiencing moments of spiritual enlightenment, quite often at around three in the morning in a field or sweaty club somewhere.
But 1.5million revellers at World Youth Day in Portugal this month really did come closer to God after Pope Francis himself closed the event with a huge open air rave.
Gone were the traditional church organs and choir and in its place was DJ Padre Guilherme Peixoto dropping some sick techno beats for the amassed partygoers.
The crazy Catholic clip has already clocked up over 300,000 views on YouTube and has gone viral on other social media platforms.
It is clear that the Portuguese priest isn’t any normal preacher, in fact the music mad 49-year-old even got his headphones blessed by Pope Francis while on recent trip to the Vatican.
During lockdown the music loving minister also swapped his his vestments for a T-shirt and cranked up the volume to livestream his DJ sets to his followers.
โRight now itโs so important to use social media to bring a bit of joy into peopleโs lives,โ Peixoto told Reuters at the the time. โAnd people seem happy when they see a priest playing music online.โ
It is clear that Peixoto doesn’t hold back in both his dedication to God and to his livestreams.
His streaming set-up includes strobe and fairy lights and a stack of sparkling decorations.
The World Youth Day in Portugal took place between the 01 and 06 August and the raving Reverend woke up the pilgrims on the last day of the event before Pope Francis delivered mass.
His setlist included classic Catholic tracks like ‘Hallelujah’ and ‘Gloria’ but we think he missed a trick by leaving out ‘God is a DJ’.
