A SOCIAL media star stumbled upon two abandoned fighter jets on a Google Earth search – then sent his fans into a panic as he tried to find them.
Josh McCartney has built up 375,000 Instagram followers ‘hiking to hidden gems’ as Josh the Intern.
One of his latest trips saw him travel to a secret location in the middle of nowhere and ‘walk for miles’ along a beach strewn with shipwrecks before discovering the two aged fighter planes in the middle of a field.
In a terrifying plot twist though internet sleuths believe that McCartney has in fact stumbled on a Welsh MOD firing range in his search for some abandoned treasure.
“The guy is in the middle of a firing range and he does not know it…” quipped one YouTube commentor.
“This is Pembrey Sands in Wales owned by the British Ministry of Defence. It is an active air-to-ground bombing and strafing practice area… Not ideal for hikers…” said another.
“Sir you have walked onto a live fire zone. I salute you.” joked a third.
While McCartney has kept the location a mystery, it didn’t take long for the internet to get involved and unravel the mystery.
The planes appear to be two SEPECAT Jaguar fighters, an Anglo-French supersonic jet attack aircraft first made in the 1960s and retired around 2007, of which two similar craft are sitting in a strictly off-limits MOD munitions range in south west Wales.
Wherever the location, and Swift Half wouldn’t like to speculate, we would strongly advise against hiking anywhere without proper due diligence and paying attention to your surroundings.
Especially if there is even a remote chance of there being some Welshman with firearms in the vicinity.
