A COCKTAIL drinker nearly choked on her umbrella and cherry after being handed a bill for just one drink totalling nearly £2,000.
The woman had ordered the drink containing Cristal Champagne, gold leaf and a 30-year-old whisky thinking the 18 90 price tag as it was written on the menu meant £18.90.
She was stunned to receive the bill for £1,890 and said: “I showed my husband the receipt and he was furious at me.”
The woman, who is known only as Lyndsey and is a self-proclaimed workaholic and cocktail lover, added on TikTok:Â “It was my mistake but it was genuine. I started to panic as this was a five star hotel.”
The Mirror added that Lyndsey – who is not the first customer to receive a stomach-churning bill – not only risked losing her husband and face a serious hit in the wallet, but that she also “didn’t even enjoy the drink” at the five-star hotel.

She added: “I said to the young guy behind the bar, ‘look I’m so sorry, I had no idea it was £1,890’.
“The manager was so discreet and so wonderful. He complete played it down. He was like ‘look it’s fine, don’t worry about it, we will sort this out’.”
It was the first night of five at the plush venue but Lyndsey said she spent the next few days avoiding the bar “like the plague”.
She did eventually pluck up the possibly Dutch courage to go back to the bar. Lyndsey revealed that the manager joked: “This is the girl who made us open the Cristal and we had to drink the Cristal.”
The hotel boss apparently teased her that they had sacked the bar tender – causing Lynsey to burst into tears. But the manager reassured her that this wasn’t the first time this has happened and told Lyndsey she did not have to pay for the cocktail.
The price of the drink was branded “insane” on social media, while Lyndsey added: “I will forever check the price of cocktails from now on.”
Any boozers wishing to avoid such problems could always head to the home of Europe’s cheapest beer instead.
Or they could just stay at home and have a crack at making their own booze instead.
