POLICE may be forced to reveal exactly how 80 of Titanic’s cast and crew were spiked while filming the Hollywood blockbuster in Canada.
Scores of the crew were hospitalised after a clam chowder from a production catering truck was purposefully contaminated with PCP, a potent hallucinogenic also know as Rocket Fuel or Angel Dust – renowned for its powerful mind-altering effects.
A ruling from the Nova Scotiaโs Information and Privacy Commission office is about to reveal new information on exactly what happened.
Many initially thought they were suffering from seafood poisoning, but doctors at the hospital quickly began to piece the evidence of the mass-spiking together.
Reactions to the drugging varied wildly. While many were anxious and feeling sick, others it seems rode the high and were dancing the Conga and racing wheelchairs through the Dartmouth General emergency department.
Director James Cameron, 69, was quoted as shouting: โThereโs something in me! Get it out.โ
An electrician from the set recognised the feelings according to Variety and said: “Do you guys feel okay? Because I donโt. I feel like Iโm on something, and believe me, I would know.”
The case was officially closed in 1999, but new information is set to emerge after the ruling.
Halifax regional police have been recommended to release further details from a ‘rapid incident report’ written at the time.
If police follow the recommendation then the report will due to be released in mid-May, possibly finally solving the 28-year-old drug mystery.
Cameron had his own ideas as to what happened and he spilled the chowder last year on the Q with Tom Power podcast.
โWe believe the story is that it was somebody who had a beef with the caterers because the first thing we did was fire the caterers. And, you know, sure enough, we had some leads on that. Of course, the operating theory was that I was such a psycho maniac that [the perpetrator was] trying to get back at me, but I reject that theory out of hand for obvious reasons.โ
