EVER wondered what would have happened if the Hunt for Red October had been set on a yacht?
Well, wonder no more thanks to a Dutch boatbuilder who has launched its most ambitious craft yet – a jaw-dropping £22m superyacht that offers cinematic submarine-style views of the world under the waves.
The Nautilus Submarine from U-Boat Worx is both ship and submersible as she can dive beneath the waves at the press of a few buttons.
It’s almost what might have happened if Kitt from Knight Rider went on a sailing holiday.
Last year, the company provided a sneak peek of the exterior of the 38mtr (123ft) vessel. However, they have now revealed the interior too, which was designed in collaboration with Officina Armare design studio.
The 1,250-ton the Nautilus boasts a sprawling sundeck that comes complete with a freshwater pool, a bar, and a lavish dining table. This outdoor setup is folded away when the submersible slips below the water’s surface.
Inside the Nautilus, there is a spacious 50 sq. m dining and lounge area that boasts four circular windows, each approximately four meters in diameter. The submarine design includes a master bedroom, four staterooms, and sleeping quarters for up to six crew members. Additionally, there is a fully equipped galley, making cooking a meal while underwater both easy and enjoyable. However, the interior layout can be fully customised to your preferences.
With the capability of remaining submerged for up to four days, the superyacht submarine provides impressive underwater endurance. When cruising at normal speed, it can stay underwater for six hours.
The unconventional design takes inspiration from Jules Verne’s classic 1870 novel, ‘Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea’, but wouldn’t look out of place as a Bond villain’s getaway.
Bert Houtman, U-Boat Worx CEO, said: “Our goal has always been to share the wonders of the underwater world with people in the safest, most luxurious and comfortable way possible. The Nautilus is the realisation of that vision.
“We invite you to come and experience the thrill of underwater exploration for yourself, on board this one-of-a-kind vessel.”
The Nautilus is still just a concept though but U-Boat Worx says the vessel can be shipped (no pun) within just 30 months, we just need to look behind the sofa for the spare change now.
