ACCORDING to Nasa ‘You would not survive a visit to the surface of the planet – you couldn’t breathe the air, you would be crushed by the enormous weight of the atmosphere, and you would burn up in surface temperatures high enough to melt lead’.
However, this hasn’t stopped the Titan sub co-founder Guillermo Söhnlein from wanting to ‘push the limits of innovation’ and pack you off to this noxious planet.
American-Argentinia Söhnlein, a serial entrepreneur with a boat-load of ideas, co-founded OceanGate, the company focused on deep-sea submersible exploration.
It’s over a decade since Söhnlein left the company and you may think the tragic recent accident resulting in the death of five people, including CEO Stockton Rush, might curtail any further adventurous plans from the business builder.
Regardless, 57-year-old Söhnlein is eyeing a new, daring venture – colonising Venus.
He shared his ambitious plan to establish a human presence in the Venusian atmosphere with 1,000 people by 2050 with Insider, an idea he features on his perhaps less-than-stellar ‘Humans2Venus’ foundation website.

While many might laugh at the idea, Söhnlein confidently declares his project is ‘very doable’.
He believes it to be a less challenging endeavour than sending a million people to Mars by 2050, something he’s been researching since his youth.
He revealed: “I think I’ve been driven to help make humanity a multi-planet species since I was 11 years old.”
Despite the daunting task ahead, Söhnlein remains hopeful, comparing the venture to a simple caravan trip.
“People compare it to a month-long caravan trip. Some people can do it, some people can’t.”
In that case pack some toilet roll, a torch and a pack of cards… next stop Venus.
