HAMLEYS, London’s top toy store and the oldest in the world, has revealed its top ten gift list for 2023 and unusually they have coupled it with a toy list for grown-ups who are ready to spunk the cash.
Unsurprisingly Barbie has come high up the rankings for the youngsters in a year when the world nearly ran out of pink paint thanks to the blockbuster summer movie smash.
Anticipated to be the store’s top-selling item, the Barbie Pop Reveal doll priced at £27 offers a captivating ‘unboxing experience.’ It unveils which of the four delightful ‘flavours’ you’ve received: strawberry lemonade, fruit punch, watermelon crush, or grape fizz.
According to Hamleys the ongoing trend of ‘kidults’—where adults indulge in nostalgic toys for their own enjoyment—is also projected to boost toy sales this year.
The £110 ‘Lunch Box’ van from the Japanese brand Tamiya, which first went on sale in 1987, has topped out the list for those of a slightly maturer disposition.
Also on the list for ‘bigger kids’ is the £40 Ralleys Soft Dart Blaster, and the Anime The Cult of San Reja Neil toy, costing £45.

Victoria Kay from Hamleys, said kidults were an increasingly important demographic, with anime also a big trend. “You have to consider kidults and anime to be relevant in the market,” she said.
The list for children fortunately contains many items under £50 which will be some relief for parents during the difficult cost of living crisis.
These include a classic wooden bus priced at £35 and the £18 Marvel TY Squish-A-Boos, which stands as the most budget-friendly option.
Hamleys has taken into consideration the financial pressures that families may be experiencing this year.
Kay highlight the “Importance of providing parents with a range of pricing options” that can give them “the flexibility to plan and purchase thoughtfully”.
Hamleys think that the LOL Magic Flyers will be a best seller, where a battery-powered fairy emerges from its box.
For younger children the Playmobil Winnie and Piglet’s Treehouse, a collaboration with Disney, is expected to be a big hit.
And for family’s a new version of a the classic game Twister cold be a winner. Twister Air eliminates the need for the traditional mat, as players engage with an app and motion-activated wristbands for a modern gaming experience.
