IF you’re lucky enough to have a few quid in your pocket to be planning a holiday, you may well be asking yourself where your pound will stretch furthest.
Top of Swift Half’s list when working out such expenditures is ‘where is the cheapest pint of beer?’, and we suspect it may be among your considerations too.
Well, fortunately, the good people at finder.com have done the work for us already.
And it would seem the chances are you will find better value booze if you head abroad, with the global average for a pint coming in at ยฃ2.60 – compared to ยฃ5.90 in the UK. (not that we’d doubt the value of the best beers in the UK).
But if you want to be certain of a good deal – and dont wan’t to make your own grog – then head to Bujumbura in Burundi, officially home of the cheapest pint of beer in the world at just 46 pence. That means 21 pints plus change for a tenner!
Definitely a good place to get a round in then, and you can enjoy those bargain beers while overlooking the port. But if you want to sit outside and smugly sup up, head there outside of the wet season, which runs from October to April.
The top five cheapest pints list is made up of other African cities, namely Maseru in Lesotho at 62p, Tripoli in Libya 69p, Lome in Togo at 73p and finally Rwandan capital Kigali at 74p, as reported by The Drinks Business.
If you want to get Out of Africa, like the film suggests, then head to Vientiane in Laos, where a beer will cost just 79p, the same as in Lusaka, Zambia. There are also some bargains to be found in Europe, as a study into the cheapest pints on the Continent claims.
Antananarivo in Madagascar rounds out the top ten at a still extremely reasonable 80p.
