JUST when you thought you had had your fill of artificial intelligence along rocks a new ‘lost’ Oasis album fronted by a fake Liam Gallagher created by AI.
The songs are virtually indistinguishable from the real deal and have sent fans of the Manchester bad boys into a Champagne Supernova.
But who is behind it and more importantly, why has this been allowed?
โWe just got bored waiting for Oasis to re-form,โ 32-year-old singer songwriter Bobby Geraghty told The Guardian.
Geraghty is a member of the band Breezer, who are heavily inspired by the Madchester duo. They had some traction with their new tunes that sounded somewhat similar to the Gallagher brothers at their BritPop peak.
But that was where it ended, until Bobby ‘had the mad idea to stick in Liam as the singer’.
To do this the band trained an AI model to sound like Liam. Their tunes already sounded on point compared to their 90s heroes, all they need needed was Gallagher fronting them to send them Supersonic.
โObviously, our band sounded exactly like Oasis. So then all I had to do was replace my vocals with Liamโs.โ Geraghty explained.
By feeding a cappella vocals of Liam into a machine they managed to train the AI to produce their lyrics as if they were sung by the Rock ‘n Roll frontman himself.
โWe just wanted to give people a bit of nostalgia; a what-might-have-been, because we never really got any closure from Oasis. They just got worse and worse over the years, didnโt they?โ said drummer from the band Jon Claire.
Fans haven’t been looking back in anger though and little by little the tributes have been rolling in.
“This is like stepping into an alternate dimension – blown away – Amazing!!!” said one YouTube commenter. “It’s like I’m a kid again, listening to new Oasis stuff with good old Liam’s voice and Noel has returned to his iconic style,” said another.
So what next for Breezer and AIsis? The band don’t want to Slide Away and they would โrather work with Liam on his actual stuff and make it decent, in the nicest way possible,โ Geraghty told The Guardian
Check out the AIses lost tapes below. They’re definitely worth listening to. Maybe….
