EVERY year an incredible 1.6million learner drivers take their driving test with around 47 per cent passing first time.
But where you are from can make an absolutely huge difference, with Lochgilphead in Scotland having a heady pass rate of around 80 per cent, compared to Erith in London which had the lowest with just 32 per cent of learners passing.
The data compiled by Quotezone.co.uk shows that Scottish drivers clearly experienced higher pass rates than their English counterparts, as evidenced by 15 out of the top 20 test centres being located north of the border.
On the contrary, the bottom 20 performing test centres exclusively belong to England, with the majority of these centres concentrated in and around major cities such as London, Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool.
Founder of Quotezone.co.uk Greg Wilson, said: “Rural locations appear to be the best places for learner drivers to take and pass their tests, whereas taking your practical test in metropolitan areas like London and Birmingham seems to make it more difficult to pass.
“This could be explained by the higher number of hazards and road features in cities, leading to more opportunities for driving mistakes and errors.

“London is unquestionably the hardest place to pass a driving test the first-time round – driving test centres in London hold seven out of the 20 lowest pass rates, closely followed by centres in Birmingham, Liverpool and Manchester.”
So are the Scots just better drivers? Wilson will not be drawn into one of the world’s oldest rivalries.
“Whether the results show that Scots are the best drivers in GB, I will need to leave that to you to decide.”
