A GUiTAR-PLAYING kangaroo, a nose-diving heron, a dancing otter and a moody owl are some of the hilarious entrants in this year’s Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards.
Fighting off 5,300 entrants from 85 countries, an image of a Western Grey Kangaroo playing its air guitar was voted the funniest photo of the 2023 awards.
Winning photographer Jason Moore explained “Not many people know that kangaroo are normally fairly docile and even a bit boring most of the time, if I’m honest.”
“However, when I saw this roo striking the air guitar pose, it immediately brought a smile to my face and I knew that I had captured something special.”
The awards were founded in 2015 by two professional photographers, and are described as a “fun and free to enter photography competition unlike any other, showcasing seriously funny images of the earth’s most amazing wildlife”.
Celebrating the humour found in our natural world while supporting the steps required for its preservation, the competition welcomes participants of all skill levels, from novices and amateurs to seasoned professionals.
This year they have chosen to support the Whitley Fund for Nature, a British charitable organisation dedicated to backing conservation pioneers striving to protect their native environments in regions across the global south.
