WHETHER youโre preparing for your very own Oktoberfest extravaganza, heading to one of the many UK events, or simply wish to experience a taste of Bavaria at home, these beverages are certain to tantalise your taste buds and make you shout โwunderbar!โ
First up is the fantastic Paulaner Weissbier. The wheat-based beverage is a classic to die for, with a velvety feel thatโs as good as discovering a tenner in your old pair of jeans. Itโs available all over the UK in bars and supermarkets and is one of them most popular German exported beers in the UK.

It features a fruity, banana-like flavour that may tempt you to swap out your breakfast smoothie for a Weissbier. For approximately ยฃ2.50 for a 50cl bottle, itโs the ideal way to start your day (perhaps) without blowing your budget.
If you like your drinks dark, the Erdinger Dunkel (lead image) is sure to impress. The wheat beer is malted, dense, and velvety, resembling a liquid loaf of bread but far more pleasurable.
With delicate hints of caramel and chocolate, itโs akin to enjoying a rich dessert. At just over ยฃ2 a bottle, you should be snapping this stuff up!
Steinhauser is one of the best beers in the UK and it costs an extremely palatable 83p a bottle from Aldi. The taste is where this beer truly shines. Itโs such a clean crisp drinkable beer, a light crisp malt flavour like a wafer thatโs coming from the malt.
The lager proudly boasts its adherence to the German Purity Law of 1516 โ the worldโs oldest food safety law.
In case you may have missed it, this fantastic legislation permits the use of only four natural ingredients in beer โ malt, hops, yeast and water โ resulting in a flavoured lager with a fine dry hoppy taste. The Steinhauser is a classic and authentic German lager that wonโt disappoint.
If you want your drink to be cool and refreshing, the Krombacher Pils has your back. The pilsner is Germanyโs best-selling beer, and itโs for good reason. Itโs crisp and clean and it should definitely be on your hit list. At roughly ยฃ2.50 each, itโs good value.
Also, the Augustiner Helles should not be ignored. The golden lager is as crisp, like a white wine on a mild winterโs day, it is enjoyable drunk during the day.
It possesses a maltiness with a great finish. It retails for about ยฃ3, so skip drinking terrible lagers brewed in the UK (but claiming to be European) and go for the real deal.
The last beer is a banger from Lidl, the Perlenbacher Festbier – the taste is excellent, with a nice sourness to the hoppy finish reminiscent of a brew you might get at Oktoberfest, in fact a Festbier is exactly that โ a type of German beer with bottom fermentation that closely resembles lager renowned for its golden hue due to its fermentation process being at colder temperatures than an ale. So that is it, some incredible beers that can all be purchased from the comfort of your own home or with a quick trip to the pub. We’ll say cheers to that!
