THE five bedroom mansion where Macaulay Culkin’s character Kevin was abandoned while his parents flew on holiday to Paris is on the market for a snip at $5.25m (£4.1m).
The house in Winnetka, Illinois, has undergone extensive refurbishment since the 90s classic movie and has been considerably enlarged inside – with its own private basketball court part of the refurb.
The home “brings forward a rare opportunity to own one of the most iconic movie residences in American pop culture,” according to the estate agent selling the property.
While many moderations have been made, some of the famous features showcased in the movie remain from the 30-year-old film. “The gracious foyer and unforgettable entry staircase, as well as the formal living and dining room spaces, all remain largely unchanged in form and structure.”
Some secret stars of the show include a poker room and bar and an incredible indoor basketball court, and not many would forget its staircase which Culkin rode down on a sledge before crashing into the hallway.
The house, with six bathrooms and over 9,000 sq ft of space, was built in 1921. It last went under the hammer in 2012 and sold for just £1.2m so its seen a huge jump in the last 10-years-plus, according to property website Zillow.
The same website calculated the monthly mortgage repayments to be an watering £28,000 per month. At those prices it might be worth considering breaking in and squatting. Let’s just hope no one is home.
