THERE’S nothing worse than waiting two hours for a mail order item to turn up.
So thank goodness that Amazon has now reported its fastest ever delivery time of just 75 minutes.
The ubiquitous retail giant has not revealed where in the UK the lucky online punter lived.
And while it’s probably best not to think too hard about the possible parking nightmares and traffic snarl-ups such a delivery may have caused, the record-breaking arrival is good news for customers.
If it’s not, then hopefully the news that the army of Amazon delivery vans that fill the UK’s roads is soon to be replaced by a squadron of the company’s drones will be.
They will start delivering in the UK some time this year and aim to cut delivery times down to less than an hour, the Daily Mail reports.
The technology, which will be launched from an as-yet unnamed same day delivery site, will also be rolled out in Italy and a third US state, with customers in Texas and California already having deliveries dropped in their gardens.
It means drunken online shopping orders will have arrived before you’re even hungover.
An Amazon spokesman said: ‘We have built a safe, reliable delivery service and have partnered very closely with regulators and communities.
‘We will continue with that collaboration into the future to ensure we are meeting the needs of our customers and the communities we serve.’
The move comes after a trial in Cambridgeshire in 2016 and follows US firm Zipline, who are aiming to make fast-food faster.
Its latest drone will revolutionise drop-offs and collections from restaurants thanks to its fixed wing and upward-facing propellers that allow it to both fly and hover better.
The real Back to the Future bit that will freak customers out when they first see it is its ability to lower a compact ‘droid’ from a height of 330 feet, allowing it to safely deliver packages to driveways, pavements and back gardens.
Pie in the sky stuff, or high end dining?
Either way, it’s certainly food for thought.
