A BELGIAN footballer has gone viral after brilliantly switching languages during an interview to put down an English journalist who got his name wrong.
Amadou Onana was being grilled after Belgium’s shock 1-0 Euros opener defeat to Slovakia in Germany and was no doubt doing his best to be polite to the press pack.
While answering a question in French, he was being badgered by a reporter in English who wrongly called him Andre – after appearing to mix up his name with Manchester United keeper Andre Onana’s.
Everton midfielder Amadou, 22 – who speaks five languages having been born in Senegal to a Cameroonia dad and moving to Belgium as a kid – then gave a priceless response to put the hapless journo in his place after his embarrassing gaffe.
“Andre is not even my name, mate. Do you know what I mean?”, he replied in a perfect London accent.
He then calmly turned back to another reporter and said “Go on”, before continuing with his interview.
The clip has now been viewed millions of times on X, with Onana rapidly becoming a cult hero of fans of all nations.
One wrote: “Sensational change of aura from Amadou here. He went from BBC Four to ITV2 in an instant.”
Another joked: “I don’t want to oversell it, but this must be your greatest ever tweet.
A third added: “From Poirot to Danny dyer in a heartbeat.”
